Peter Grubea’s Profesional Background

Professional Background for Bankruptcy Attorney Peter Grubea

Peter Grubea has been handling consumer and business bankruptcy cases for 18 years. He has handled more than 10,000 cases throughout Western and Upstate New York.

Peter’s first position after graduating law school was with the Law Firm of Aaron, Dautch, Sternberg & Lawson. This position allowed Peter to work closely with a highly respected Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee and to gain valuable experience in virtually all aspects of New York debtor creditor law. While most consumer bankruptcy attorneys learn the law only from the debtor’s side, Peter had the opportunity to learn the law from both the debtor and creditor perspectives.

In 1997, Peter opened his first office in downtown Buffalo. He quickly gained a reputation as an aggressive advocate for debtor’s rights. During the years that followed, Peter expanded his practice throughout the Buffalo and Rochester areas. He has appeared hundreds of times before the local bankruptcy judges and has been involved in some of the most important local Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases that have clarified the law on such issues as exemption planning, fraudulent conveyances, earnings and bank account exemptions, and Chapter 13 good faith issues. Peter has also been involved in many of the cases that have interpreted the major bankruptcy law changes of 2005 and set local precedent on some of the most important issues, including the all-important mean testing.

Over the years, Peter has been a regular speaker at continuing legal education courses in Western New York. He has spoken alongside the best debtor creditor law attorneys in the area and has even had the honor of sitting on lecture panels with local bankruptcy judges.

Peter believes strongly in giving back to the community by handling bankruptcy cases (and sometimes appeals) for clients who cannot afford to pay for legal services. He has handled many pro bono bankruptcy cases for the Volunteer Lawyers Project, and his firm has received the Erie County Bar Association small-firm award for its pro bono service.

Peter Grubea was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended college at McGill University in Montreal, and obtained his degree from Queens College in New York City. He obtained his law degree from the University at Buffalo in 1993.
